Techno is a style that emerged from the experimentation of electronic technology and computerized instruments which was developed in Germany. Initially produced by artists such as Kraftwerk, techno really hit home in the period 89 to 92. Infact, its popularity grew so much so, that it even hit the top 40s worldwide and the top 10 in Germany. Ever since, techno has been somewhat replaced by the more progressive sound of trance and house. While this may be the case, the purest forms of techno are produced on a regular basis in Germany, where the genre has never died out. Big Bang artists such as Talla2XLC and more recently names such as ATB, have really put a face to the sound of all dance sounds. On the more technical spin, techno takes advantage of synth, keyboards and a solid bass line which represents the most important component of the composition. Artists such as Paul van Dyk are a clear cut example of what techno really is.

Examples

  • Talla2XLC - come with me (UK club mix)
  • Paul van Dyk - for an angel (original mix)
  • Paul van Dyk - seduction (original album version)
