DJ Mixers

The mixer is the most important component of a DJ system, because put simply, it controls everything. No matter how good the turntables, the styli or the speakers, if the mixer is poor quality, the sound will show and the mix will be hindered. A great DJ mixer is not so much dependent of the thousands of effects that you will probably never use, neither is it dependent on its flashy appearance. One of the most important factors of the mixer is its behavior when driven into the red. Indeed, most average mixers will have an inbuilt limiting system, which will cut the sin waves to prevent them from clipping the system when going out of the dynamic range of the equipment. This is one of the reasons, that high quality mixers will cost $3000 and not $200. Brands such as Allen & Heath have built their reputation around this aspect. The other reason for price differences are the faders, the heart and soul of any mixer. Quality faders respond in linear fashion and maintain their linear response and minimal fading noise over thousands of cycles. When put together, all these components give a true masterpiece of sound engineering and a vital tool to any DJ.
