Learning to DJ (w/ the 3345 Team)

Equipment : headphones

Headphones are important because as a DJ you mainly depend on your ears to match, cue and mix tracks. Central to a good DJ headphone is always a closed-ear design, which simply means that the outside of the phone is closed and therefore isolates external sound. Never use an audiophile headphone. Headphones vary by their quality and features.

High quality phones will come with plenty of driver power, up to 5W of power. Good phones, will also allow flexibility and folding of the head-straps, to better accommodate your mixing style.

Brands range from a decent pair of ‘ Stanton’, to the very high end with phones such as ‘Ultrasone’. We recommend you go for medium range brands and don’t worry too much about the price differences.

Now that you have the tools in place and the will to do it, lets run you through the basics of mixing to get you up to speed.
