CD-players come in all shapes and sizes, but at the very least, they should have a pitch fader and a round jog-dial, to allow you to beat match and subsequently nudge the sound back or forward. Clearly they must also have a cue button.

Some of the later models these days also feature a dynamic jog-dial which mimics a turntable by spinning with the sound. Do not get too caught up in this. You can still mix perfectly fine on older models as long as they are reliable.
